Andy Robertson spent most of his 69 years traveling. A construction executive specializing in large projects, his work took him across the globe. He bought marble in Italy and consulted on projects in Belize and Curacao. He explored neighborhood flea markets as well as museums. Along the way, he collected art.
The Collection
The Impressionist movement and its offshoots figured heavily. There were prints by Chagall, Cezanne, and Toulouse-Lautrec. Seventeen etchings and lithographs by Renoir. Architectural works were also a focus, particularly the engravings of Roman ruins by Piranesi and Rossini. The collection extended from Baroque to Bauhaus.
Andy bought etchings and lithographs from art dealers, galleries and auction houses. From rare bookstores to bookstalls along the Thames, he purchased antique maps and engravings.
What Remains
When Andy died in 2016, his collection numbered over 200 pieces. We, his surviving siblings, spread much of it between ourselves, our offspring and his friends. We have donated some. The work you see on the following pages is what remains.
Architectural : People & Places : Small Sculptures
The market for prints and other works on paper is currently low. We don’t want to store the work or sell it to speculators. We want it to be enjoyed, so we decided to auction them ourselves.
The Auction
There are a number of apps and services where this may be done more efficiently. I wanted something more personal with fewer indirect costs so I created these pages on my website.
Bids and Pricing
Bidding will open Friday, October 18 and close Friday, November 15.
Minimum bids given for the prints and paintings are approximately half the appraised value. Framing or the lack of it were not considered in the appraisals. The small sculptures were not appraised and the minimum bids given for them is our best guess for half their value, based on internet research.
- Make bids using the form given here.
- High bids will be labeled with the initials of the bidder unless a pseudonym is given when the form is submitted.
- Raise bids in $5-10 increments.
- Be patient, bids will be checked and updates made each morning and evening.
- Duplicate bids will be judged by the time stamp on the form. The first bid submitted is counted, other bidders will be informed.
Unsold prints will be donated to a museum or library. Unsold sculptures by indigenous artists will be donated to a refugee relief organization.
